Standon Calling festival
This past weekend we were invited by Salon London to take part in their weekend curation of events at the Standon Calling festival.
Salon London is run by Juliette Russell and Helen Bagnall, the concept behind their business is to create thought provoking experience based events and workshops which encourage learning and bring brilliant ideas and culture to life.

Helen and Juliette of Salon London (L-R)
We worked with Juliette and Helen at their very own Also Festival in June so we jumped at the opportunity to share some flower love with them and the people of Standon Calling.
When I started out as a florist I often felt intimidated or lacking in the confidence to speak up especially as I wasn’t the most technically skilled florist. The reason I enjoy these sessions so much is the opportunity to speak to people about flowers and arranging them in a really simple down to earth way, keeping it light, making it fun and sharing the things that I love.I started with a brief demonstration explaining the basic process of creating a simple display, getting a structure to work with, getting some height, creating a shape and joining the dots with lots of lovely flowers. Once the boring demo was over everyone took a seat around the benches and started work on their very own Jam Jar.
There were loads of enthusiastic florists taking part, the children were so engaged and I was happy to see that it was a really broad range of ages and men to women.

Future florists
Ultimately it’s all about having some fun working and playing together, if you manage to take a little bit of knowledge home with you then that’s even better. I will definitely be on the look out to take part in more festivals and events in the future, if you have any enquiries or suggestions please email [email protected]
Finally a special thank you to my wonderful friend and assistant for the day Maya Hart!!!
Coming up on the BLOG this month will be a look at Floristry courses and my July flower list.
See you soon
