May 2015

Hello everyone,

Quite incredibly May has come to a close and whilst the weather remains unpredictable we are undeniably moving head on into Summer. This month has been really fun with lots of great things happening which I would like to share with you.

Studio!

First off I am really excited to tell you that I have moved into a studio space. As a new business finding a space to work that is a combination of great access, good location, not too big, not too small and of course affordable, is pretty difficult in London. That said I did stumble across a space which is part of a larger unit owned by events logistics company Pollencrew. Apologies for the poor photos, we are in the middle of kitting the space out so its early days but very happy with our new home overlooking a canal and with a fantastic park within walking distance it gets Olive’s seal of approval!

Weddings

Wedding Season is well and truly underway and as it is my first official wedding season it has been really encouraging to meet with a number of brides and put  together a selection of proposals and mood boards. With the development of social media and platforms such as Pinterest brides are much more informed and have a really clear idea of what they want which definitely helps a florist. Visuals are really important and often a florist will provide a mood board of images of their work or of work which reflects the theme or style the client has requested, again this helps both bride and florist feel confident they are speaking the same language! Here is an example of a mood board I did last week, brief; country wedding, very natural, an open marquee in the garden with long tables, relaxed and informal.

And the Grooms wore Pink

I provided the wedding flowers this month for a gorgeous wedding, the reception was a beautiful lunch in the private dining room at the Delaunay restaurant in London. The Delaunay is a gorgeous restaurant on the edge of Covent Garden in Aldwych, Art Deco furnishings, Austrian style menu. Delicious! We provided a super long and low decoration for the table, comprising of 14 individual pieces which sat together to make one fabulous centre piece for the lunch. At the end of the afternoon each individual piece was given to a guest which is such a lovely way of extending the life of the flowers which would otherwise of been left stranded and surplus to requierments.

Super Long and Low!

Gorgeous pinks were the order for the day with a beautiful combination using Hydrangea, Madame Bombastic spray Rose, the old faithful Aqua Rose, Sarah Bernhart Peonies and Sweet Peas set against freshly scented Mint and frothy lime green Guelder Rose and Alchemilla.

As always Chelsea was a huge success and I had a great time on the Monday down there, truly spectacular and something you should definitely visit at least once. In case you missed it here is a link to the round up of my trip to Chelsea.

Inspiration

Inspiration comes in many forms and last week I travelled home to visit my family, Fleetwood to be exact which is just north of Blackpool. We have the most stunning coastline overlooking Morecambe Bay and the edges of the Lake District and long dog walks with Olive are a great opportunity to blast out the London dust and dirt whatever the weather. Being a bay the tide goes out twice daily leaving behind the most vibrant green wooden breakers, the moss or sea algae that has formed is really beautiful and just really took my eye, definitely something to store in the memory banks for a future event i think!

And finally

At the beginning of the month I shared some pics on my Instagram of different varieties of Peonies from the flower market which were so popular, I definitely think the Peony is one of the most popular flowers. Anyway June is THE month for Peonies so please buy them and enjoy them at their best, once they are gone, they are gone!!!

Have a great month and I will check in with you all soon.

Much love
