2015 review
I can’t quite believe that its been one whole year since we started our journey and so in true BBC tradition I thought it would be a good idea to review the last 12 months and take a look back at what we achieved.
January
My first official month of business and it was all about the contracts. For a new business like myself weekly office flowers are a great way to start and sustain a growing business. It was a small but positive start to the new year and we had lift off!
February
I decided to focus on developing my Events credentials and put together a great photo shoot at The Trampery in Old Street. Simple designs to offer clients for small dinner parties, corporate events and parties.
This was also the month I had my van sign written! It was a real thrill to drive around with my name in bold pink and lime green!
We finished off a busy month with a job for Concorde Media, delivering bunches of Marigolds for the launch of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. A day spent driving around London following a bright orange Tuk-Tuk!
March
This was all about Mothers Day and a special collaboration with Paul Smith. We took residency over the Mothers Day weekend at the iconic Floral Street, Paul Smith store. For me it was an amazing achievement and something I was incredibly proud of, to work with such an incredible brand and to have the opportunity to create a pop up shop in such incredible surroundings was a major highlight of the year.
April
Barely catching my breath from the Paul Smith event and we are commsioned to provide the event flowers for a corporate client, hosting a VIP dinner at Lancaster House on the Mall. A pinch myself moment working at such a high profile venue with Alison Price & Co, one the best caterers in town. Gorgeous, classic white and green bowls of flowers fitted the room perfectly. A job well done!
May
We moved house! Just ahead of the Summer we moved into our brand spanking new studio. A perfect size with space to grow and extend it felt like the ideal set up for us at this stage of the business. By now we were heading into the busy summer season which in May is spent doing a lot of meetings, mood boards and proposals. We did get to decorate the private dining room at the Delaunay which was a treat.
Last but not least May heralds the Summer season with the world famous Chelsea Flower Show. If you haven’t been before then do try and book yourself in for a visit in 2016!
June
A key event in the Summer calendar is the launch of the Serpentines ‘Summer Pavillion’. The year a multi coloured structure was created by Spanish architects Selgascano. We were invited by the Serpentine to provide some flowers for the launch event, a really fun creation given the pavillion’s colouring!
July
Continuing business development by taking on the restaurant chain San Carlo Chicchetti in Piccadilly and Covent Garden, a great client with a real love of flowers.
We were invited to take part in a project for Cancer Research UK, they were developing a ‘Thank You’ campaign and wanted to create their iconic C out of flowers. This was one of those one in a million jobs and it was a real privilege to be involved.
August
Festival season and so with out friends of Salon London we put together some fun workshops at the Also festival and Standon Calling. Loads of fun with the whole family doing a little bit of a demo but mostly letting everyone get stuck in! More of this for 2016 at the Also festival in June!
September
We started our #HappyMonday initiative, leaving little bunches or seasonal flowers in public spaces for people to find and take home. It’s a little bit of marketing and a lot of love all rolled into one and we hope to develop this further in 2016.
We were asked to provide the flowers for a fabulous party at 4 Hamilton Place. Masses of cerise pink and purple Hydrangea and deconstructed mantelpieces worked together perfectly for this event and another great milestone in the year!
October
Behind the scenes we were in full Christmas prep, whereas up front we were doing gorgeous little weddings and at the end of the month some super spooky decorations and scary pumpkins for Halloween.
We decorated the Zetter Townhouse in a Miss Haversham inspired array of faded glory, with an impressive collection of pumpkins at the entrance. Followed by an impressive gothic party at the Bloomsbury Ballroom with masses of red roses, ferns, candelight and cobwebs!!!
November
Winter weddings were the order of the day with a pair of really gorgeous couples. First off was the gorgeous Naomi and James with a very natural, whimsical and romantic brief with masses of cypressus fern and David Austin Roses.
Followed by Mark and Ingrid at the Museum of St John with a Christmas, medieval banquet!
December
Well obviously is was trees, garlands, wreaths, glitter and sparkle all the way and we loved it as usual. Lots of hard work and sore hands but worth all the effort.
I was thrilled to actually get to round off my year with a very intimate wedding at Claridges Hotel on the 30th. Such an iconic hotel and the very best way to round off our first year!
Thank you all for your love and support, it is really great to stop and look back and I am so excited to get started on 2016 and I hope will all join me along the way.
Lots of love
Paul X
