August 2015

Hello everyone, it’s CARNIVAL!!!!!!!Dated: / /2010 Matt Lloyd - The Times

Im sat here at my desk on a very grey and wet Bank Holiday whilst on the other side of London the Notting Hill Carnival is in full swing, I thought this image seemed the most appropriate and optimistic!

August is the low season for many businesses and for florists we definately experience the calm before the new seasons storm. And so as a new business  this month was all about taking stock, looking back on past achievements and making plans for the future.

#ThankyouThursday

Back in July I posted a few snaps from a special project we were working on which was launched in August. Cancer Reseach UK started an initiative called #ThankyouThursday which involved inviting anyone affected by cancer to take part and express their love and gratitude to friends, family, doctors, nurses, fundraisers or researchers. The project took place online and received a huge response across Twitter Facebook and Instagram. Search #ThankYouThursday

In terms of the flowers we used a selection of baby blue, purple and cerise pink flowers,  Hydrangea florets, Nigella, Wax Flower, Cornflower, Clematis, Lavender and Verbena which were all delicately attached to wire frames and placed on an outline of the Cancer Research UK ‘C’.

A great team effort from all involved and something we really enjoyed being a part of. #ThankyouThursday

#HappyMonday

#HappyMonday and Petal to the Metal

Our first #HappyMonday bunch

Perhaps influenced by the Cancer Research UK but definately it is an idea that has been percolating for a long time now, I started my very own initiative called #HappyMonday. I essentially put together a bunch of flowers and leave them in a public space for an unsuspecting member of the public to take them. The flowers have a card attached which explains exactly what is going on and that in taking the flowers they are participating in the #HappyMonday initiative.happy cardMy motivation for doing this was to just try new and different things, engage with people, build some brand awareness in an interesting way and generally start a conversation with people and remind them that it’s the simple things that matter, above all it’s just a really great way to start the week!

Bright and Beautiful

So if you are London based then keep an eye out and, if you are a lucky recipient then please share the love!

We also started our monthly Flower List which I did for July and am about to publish August’ list. The idea being we build up a library and research tool that we can all use to help remind us of what is around at the flower market from month to month, season to season.

Coming up

Looking ahead there are lots of things planned for the Blog including a look at Hotel Floristry which is coming up in September, along with a look at Autumn Brides and Im sorry to bring it up but Christmas…..Sshhhhhh.
